Give your office a Spring makeover
Although it may not feel like it, Spring is on its way! With each new season comes an opportunity to refresh our office space. In this blog post we share some ideas for how you can give your office a Spring makeover.
A classic Spring clean
Why not freshen up your office with a spring clean? Spring is the perfect opportunity to get rid of anything you don’t need. Afterall, a clean work environment is a more productive one and reducing clutter also helps create a calming atmosphere. Here are some ideas to get you started!
Workstations
The workstation is where your team will spend most of their day – so it’s important that it is kept clean and tidy to support wellbeing and productivity. Encourage your teams to:
- Go over files and papers on desks and recycle or shred anything that’s no longer needed
- Take a look at desk drawers and any throw away any clutter
- Tie up loose cables and keep them off the floor where possible
Communal areas
Communal areas can quickly become grubby if not cared for properly. They are also one of the main culprits for spreading germs too. Give the following a go to get things in order:
- Wipe down surfaces with disinfecting wipes
- Remove any clutter from meeting rooms and throw away anything that no longer works (dried up marker pens, anyone?)
- In the kitchen, empty the fridge of any out-of-date items and give the microwave and other surfaces a thorough wipe down
- Check the supply cabinet and put an order in for anything that needs replacing

Digital
Finally, Spring cleaning isn’t just about your office space. It should carry over to your virtual workspace too. Encourage staff to take a few minutes each day over the course of a week to:
- Give their inbox a tidy by deleting old or redundant emails
- Sort through any documents that have been saved to Desktop (we’ve all done it!). File them in the proper place
- Back up their work to the Cloud or an external hard drive
Bring the outdoors in
Another great way to embrace the joys of Spring is to bring the outdoors in. Biophilic design is fantastic all year round but is particularly simple to do in Spring when lovely fresh flowers and plants are in abundance. When done well, it can have a profound effect on mental health, productivity and more. Try incorporating the following into your office design:
- Plants and flowers – go simple with a beautiful vase of flowers or bring in more permanent greenery such as a living wall
- Earthy colour palette – try natural colours on walls and furniture and add nature themed wall art for an added boost
- Natural finishes – materials such as wood and stone can also create a biophilic effect

Restorative spaces
Spring is when the world starts to come to life again and it often brings with it a calming effect. Capture this mood by creating restorative spaces in your office. It has the added benefit of supporting staff wellbeing – a topic that’s only growing in importance for employers across the UK. Here are our tips for creating a restorative aesthetic:
- Comfortable furniture – bring in casual seating where staff can enjoy a quiet moment. Add soft furnishings to up the comfort factor
- Ambient lighting – make the most of natural light wherever you can. Where this isn’t possible, try a variety of lamps so employees can choose their ideal light level
- Spring colours – go for nature-inspired greens and blues, or mix things up with pastels and sorbet shades
