Project Background and Objectives
Macfarlanes Solicitors approached us to transform their business support services spaces, including the facilities and IT departments. These areas were among the most tired and dated in their office. The objective was to shift the working culture from a high-density office setup to an open, collaborative, and contemporary environment. The design needed to align with a monochrome aesthetic while creating functional, modern spaces to encourage teamwork and enhance employee experience.
Solutions and Approach
We delivered a comprehensive CAT A & B design and fit-out, focusing on collaboration, functionality, and modern aesthetics:
- Open and Collaborative Spaces: Reimagined the workspace with open-plan collaboration zones, quiet rooms, and informal meeting areas to foster a more connected work culture.
- Modern Facilities: Introduced Zoom rooms, breakout coffee bars, lockers, and meeting rooms to support both individual and team-focused tasks.
- • Lighting and Mechanical Upgrades: Upgraded the lighting system to energy-efficient LEDs, installed feature lighting for visual impact, and adapted the existing mechanical system to suit the new layout.
- Acoustic Solutions: Installed acoustic baffles in meeting rooms to enhance sound quality and maintain privacy.
- Enhanced Amenities: Provided zip hot and chilled taps for convenience and incorporated biophilic elements to soften the monochrome aesthetic and improve employee well-being.
- Furniture and Finishes: Delivered furniture and finishes that complemented the contemporary monochrome design, creating a cohesive and polished space.
Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge was transforming the working culture within a highly traditional setup. We addressed this by:
- Designing open and collaborative spaces that encouraged team interaction while still providing quiet areas for focused work.
- Engaging closely with the client throughout the project to ensure the design met their cultural and operational needs.
- Implementing a modern, monochrome style that balanced aesthetics with functionality.
Results and Benefits
The completed project achieved:
- A contemporary, open-plan workspace that significantly improved team collaboration and morale.
- A measurable increase in team attendance in the newly transformed spaces.
- Enhanced functionality with the integration of modern facilities such as Zoom rooms and breakout zones.
- Improved energy efficiency through LED lighting and mechanical system upgrades.
- A modern, professional environment that reflected Macfarlanes Solicitors’ brand and values.
